Kaftan summer dress

Styling Kaftans & Kimonos All Year Round!

Now, even though the great British summer of 2023 has been anything but ‘great’ (some might go so far as to call it a complete washout), we’ve still revelled in the warmer temperatures over the last few months and have still been out and about showing off our summer wardrobes… even if we have had to wear wellies at the same time!

With August now coming to its rather soggy conclusion, you can expect the temperature to begin to dip - although we haven’t lost all hope just yet for an Indian summer.

But even if we aren’t thusly blessed, that doesn’t mean we have to abandon our summery clothes entirely and you can still rock your full closet regardless of the weather, by following a few little tricks of the trade.

If you’re loath to hang your kaftans and kimonos up until next year, never fear! You don’t need to! In fact, you may well find that they represent the perfect finishing touch to your winter outfits if you get your layering just right.

It’s all about marrying style with convenience and what you don’t want in the approach to winter is to feel the cold, so make sure that you build your layers carefully and wear your winter coat or jacket, either on top or underneath your kaftan.

If it’s not too chilly, you can give a nod to the fashion gods by dressing up a long-sleeved shirt or turtleneck jumper and wearing your kimono over the top, which would really elevate the look and make you the talk of the town.

What’s great about this is the contrast of textures you get by mixing winter fabrics like tweed, faux fur and leather with softer more summery materials like cotton and silk. Just play around with a few looks and see what you think. We’re sure you’re going to love the sartorial concoctions that arise!
